Deja Vu (2006)
A few plot holes, which you’re bound to have with a time travel movie. Denzel is Denzel. Caviezel’s pretty sinister in this one. Patton is delicious. Polished, glossy photography from Tony Scott, but the editing and sound effects for some of the “high-tech” scenes are a bit cheesy.

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
I get the parody, but it’s just not funny enough. You actually have to sit through the rather boring and barely existent story and wait for the funny situations and remarks to come. Guest’s later stuff was better.

Ganja Queen (2007)
Pretty moving story (or performance). Amazing that they were able to reconstruct the story without any voiceover and a minimal amount of graphic text. A lot of coverage of a case I’ve never heard of. I wonder if she did it.

Leatherheads (2008)
Pretty good feeling for the period, but nothing special. Not dramatic enough to be moving, not goofball enough to be a Coen brothers comedy.

Adventureland (2009)
Not dramatic enough for a drama, not funny enough for a comedy. The hero isn’t noble enough, the villain isn’t mean enough. Mediocre in just about every way. Captures the 80’s pretty well, though.

Foster was a cutie. McGillis was sexy but would have been sexier if she wasn’t so militant. Heavy stuff for mainstream 1988, no?
