La Dolce Vita (1960)

A celebration of celebrity and the high life, but lacking an emotional story. Marcello is very cool. Anouk Aimée is striking. Dijon, as Frankie Stout, is one of the freakiest-looking dudes in the history of film. Wonderful framing and lighting in every shot.

Hot Fuzz (2007)

Great editing, but not much else. Pegg, who looks better with a goatee, certainly has sense of comic timing, but the movie stoops to the level of Reno 911. The Timothy Dalton spiking effect was exceptional.

Cruise has a presence, I suppose, but it’s not a wonderful role. Pretty tame story. Fun seeing a young Cruise, Penn, and Thompson.

Fatal Attraction (1987)

Great thriller, seriously creepy and nicely shot. I guess the 80’s were when it was finally OK to tell a story about adultery. Lyne’s definitely got a very specific niche. Douglas nails it with a great performance, only he is upstaged by Close. Close is scary and scary good, Oscar-worthy.…
