Sink or Swim (1990)
Weird, but interesting. Really cool extended typewriter shot. Neat how you hear a 10-year-old voice speak so articulately and intelligently. It makes you want to listen to what she’s gonna say next. A bit long.

Cool movie about fire with a great cast. It’s actually one of the only movies where I liked Kurt Russell. Good cinematography, and I’m sure it would have been fantastic in the theater.

Neat stained glass introduction, and pretty good animation overall, except that some parts looked like a Saturday morning cartoon. Some cheesy-ass dinnerplate and silverware computer animation didn’t help. Disgustingly fast cuts, almost like an exaggeration of Post-Modernism. It really screws up the story by not letting the viewer absorb the…

I think this film set the stage for the big-budget entourage of American Indian films, like Dances With Wolves and Last of the Mohicans. In the words of Larry Fascella, it successfully “transports you to another place and time.” A good representation of some Canadian history. There’s an awful lot…

Full ReviewBugsy (1991)
Decent. Warren Beatty sometimes looks a bit like D.B. Sweeney, who looks exactly like Mike Lansing of the Expos. Nasty death scene for Bugsy.

A pretty good horror with definite influences from Hitchcock. De Niro’s still got that magic fire in his eyes, but you can tell he’s starting to get old. His face has become a mass of tendons and wrinkles. No more baby fat. He’s creepy and intense and mentally strong, like…
Full ReviewL.A. Story (1991)
A lovely story about a REAL person in a FAKE world. Interesting that London comes to signify that which is real. A philosophical parody, not too common. A parody like this one just had to be made. L.A. is just too quirky. I would have made this movie sooner or…
