The Match That Started My Fire (1991)

Short, sweet, and interesting. Funny sounds and images (I didn’t get the sea creatures, though). Good color. No real nudity (except for the through-the-panties masturbation close-up), which is amazing. Were those radio calls? It’s probably good that we couldn’t see them talking, cuz it allowed us to imagine the perfect…

My Own Private Idaho (1991)

Just like any other movie about a narcoleptic, homosexual, homeless male prostitute, with no sense of temporal continuity.

New Jack City (1991)

Pretty good, but it had a few movie cliches which could have been removed. A lot of the movie, including the subject and some of the scenes themselves, was taken directly from The Untouchables.

Only the Lonely (1991)

Candy is great. I bet Hughes had a hand in making this one. A few good moments. A really dark romantic comedy.

Silence of the Lambs (1991)

A couple of cool scenes, an interesting story, good acting, and a kinda neat ending. Neat with the cross-cutting of doors opening in different states. But why would Buffalo Bill invite Clarice inside his house in the first place?

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

One of the best movies I have ever seen. So much makes it great, I don’t know where to start. The plot is original, unpredictable, and fast-paced. The action sequences always keep me leaning off my seat. The special effects have brought movie technology to a new level. Every scene…

Thelma & Louise (1991)

Interesting premise. Maybe a tad slow. Interesting, sad ending. I got choked up, feeling for the characters and their transformation. At the end, it might have been better with a fade to black instead of white, and slower and longer car-flying. What was with throwing their arms up in the…

Tongues Untied (1989)

A revolutionary bore. “Brotha to brotha” sounded cool. The confessionals were WAY too contrived.

What About Bob? (1991)

Funny problem, but the humor gets old really quick. It’s just not a funny movie. One funny scene, when Bill Murray is asleep and Dreyfuss has to wake him up.

American Me (1992)

A good look into Hispanic-American lower-class culture. A combination of Carlito’s Way, Godfather (brother-killing), Shawshank Redemption (prison), and Malcolm X (dramatic rise and assassination) for Hispanics, but it just didn’t have the same punch as any of them. The story just doesn’t build effectively, and the film just wasn’t very…
