Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick

One of the best movies I have ever seen. So much makes it great, I don’t know where to start. The plot is original, unpredictable, and fast-paced. The action sequences always keep me leaning off my seat. The special effects have brought movie technology to a new level. Every scene with those multi-million dollar “morphs” could be replayed 1000 times, and I’d never believe my eyes. Neat gun-flipping, copied from “The Rifleman”.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the perfect hero, and Robert Patrick is the even more perfect villain. I fell in love with Patrick’s performance as the T-1000. He portrayed every glance, every motion with such perfection. I can’t get over how real he made his character seem. The T-1000 in that cop uniform looked like the robots from THX-1138. And that walk…

Overall, the special effects are spectacular. There are a few very minor technical flaws I picked up on only after seeing the movie more than 20 times. If Arnie has “detailed files,” wouldn’t he know what’s wrong with Jon’s eyes? And why does the T-1000 show surprise when he gets frozen? Where did he learn that expression?

The plot and action create wonderful momentum throughout. A sign of a great action movie is that you don’t want it to end when you’re watching it. Just the right touch of comedy.

Part of Cameron’s genius is using the many of the same actors, same characters, same plot elements, and same shots as Aliens and coming up with something completely different. Has any other director been able to use his own material over again in subsequent movies so successfully?

This one made me want to make movies.
