If I had to pick one movie I had to watch over and over for its artistic merit, this would be it. And that doesn’t even count the story, which blows my mind (especially the ending). Truly timeless. I would love for this to be my movie.
Great flavor. Well-shot. Fantastic use of color, and I love the 60’s Dutch angles and zooms. Some great humor and great metaphors. Great acting all around. Nova’s a cutie, and those apes are fantastic. A few cheesy lines/moments (particularly with Chuck and particularly with the bad dialogue dubbing), but it just adds character.
After repeated viewings, I am beginning to wonder if perhaps the story is missing something. Perhaps a larger climax or more conflict of some kind in the middle.
Feels like it should have been a Kubrick film. Kubrickian cinematography. A Kubrickian killer revelation at the end. And Heston would be a typical Kubrick leading man.
