A wonderful mix of animation, comedy, emotion, writing, pacing, and editing. This thing should be winning awards.
The story about multiple dimensions is a little out there, but you can enjoy the ride without thinking about it too much. But let’s be clear. This is not a reboot. Faithful to all the other adaptations, but edgy and updated for the times.
Incredibly and brilliantly self-aware. This is a comic book movie, and it’s not cheesy or on-the-nose. It’s cinematic and fun, making fun of itself and taking itself seriously at the same time. Really good work here. This is a comic book lover’s wet dream.
Fantastic animation. I have no idea how they pulled off a combination of Pixar and traditional animation. You can freeze-frame any moment in the film, and it’s beautiful. Perfect sound effects and a really cool soundtrack tie it all together. Even the post-credits scene is great.
Great voice acting, especially by Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker. Or is it Chris Pine as Peter Parker. I’m a little confused there, but they are both great. Love the addition of Nic Cage and the Simpsons in-joke with Spider Pig. Even Stan Lee is in there.
And the comedy is really good. The dialogue is great, with as much of the irreverence and wit as Deadpool.
I have no idea how collaborative direction by three people resulted in something so focused.
