As an actor, Hanks’ roles have been very funny or very dramatic. This movie, though, is quite plain. Neither funny nor dramatic. It’s well-made, but there’s just not much to it. Why is that? Did Hanks just want some safe material so that he could give directing a shot and see if he liked it?
