A small story, but a good one. This is a frustrating, unsettling movie to watch, but I guess that’s a testament to its storytelling.
Mikkelsen is great. So is everyone else, for that matter. Non-American actors just seem much more natural. What’s the secret? A remarkable performance from Wedderkopp. When was the last time a child played such a scandalous role in an American movie? Linda Blair in The Exorcist? Blair got the role only after the filmmakers determined that she was mature enough to handle the subject matter. I wonder if Wedderkopp was as carefully selected, or if they’re just a lot more “open” about casting young people in scandalous roles in other countries. Wedderkopp does a cute thing with her nose.
A good example of how foreign movies can take chances that American movies can’t. Too many taboos, too many boundaries. They’d never make this movie in America.
