Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Starring Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester, Daniel Richter

Author

Pretty good, if you can make sense of it. Good drama and story. Exceptional special effects (not flawless, but pretty damn accurate) for a 60’s movie, especially considering they hadn’t even gone to the moon yet. The first 1/3 is very 60’s-ish, while the next 2/3 is remarkably modern. The only thing is that it’s so damn slow.

I could see how Kubrick would take offense to this film being labelled as science fiction. Is it science fiction or science fact? An interesting debate, much like the one in the case of Contact.
