Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Blonde Venus (1932)

Directed by Josef von Sternberg

Starring Marlene Dietrich, Herbert Marshall, Cary Grant, Dickie Moore

Author

I really felt for the sick husband. He acted a lot like I would have, and he got screwed. Dietrich was a real bitch. I just don’t get the ending. How in the Hell did he accept her back after she fucked him around? He should have stuck to his guns. That ending was really unsatisfying. Not only that, but we never knew what happened to Gable. I think it would have been neat if we would have seen him pick up a new chick off the street as he walked out of the apartment building. Was adultery, even if implied, common in movies as early as this one?

Dietrich was OK, her accent was kinda cool. I don’t think she’s much of a singer, though. Typical portrayal of Blacks, stupid but friendly, and always subservient. Kids were much better actors back then then they are now. Great ape get-up. Almost as good as the ones in Planet of the Apes.
