A Vietnam vet breaking down. We’re supposed to enjoy this?

The character is confused and aimless, so it’s hard to sympathize with him. And not showing his speech at the end was lame. But despite these character shortcomings, Cruise does a pretty good job.

Stone once again does a good job of capturing a slice of American history, paying close attention to costuming, set design, and even acting styles. It really feels like you’re there.
