Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Daughters of the Dust (1992)

Author

Hard to give this film a rating. There are lots of really good things, but there are lots of really bad things.

Like Orlando, this film features some beautiful photography and good use of sound and music, but in this film it gets old very quickly. The music was very emotional but too repetitive. Cool intro music and credits with colors (reminded me of True Romance). Way too many unmotivated beautiful shots, almost as annoying as Star Wars in that sense. The slomo was used way too much and was gay.

Not enough story, and very little structure to what’s there. And because there’s not much story, the film is too long. A commercial but artsy film about real African blackness, like Amistad. The walking on water scene was kinda cool.
