Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

New Moon (2009)

Directed by Chris Weitz

Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Christina Jastrzembska

Author

There are two stories in this one, and it seems like a bit much to tackle in one movie. Perhaps an awkward consequence of adapting from the books.

The unhealthy relationship between Bella and Edward continues, but a third element is added to make things even more chaotic. In Edward’s absence, Jake provides the requisite drama. But Bella’s melancholic depression and screaming fits over her lost boyfriend make me cringe. When Bella grows up a little bit, I’ll care about her a little more.

Stewart’s a little better at sustaining eye contact, which makes her much more appealing. Lautner is not a very good actor and a seems bit dweebish, but his muscles, impulsive profession of love for Bella, and supernatural flair go a long way for girls.

The bluish cast from the first film is gone, which makes sense considering this story is more about Jake than Edward.
