Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Nope (2022)

Directed by Jordan Peele

Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Brandon Perea

Author

Beautiful photography, effects are impressive, and Peele is really great at creating tension and suspense for a few moments at a time, but all these little moments don’t support a very good story. Carnivorous alien spaceships? Why are they here and what do they want? Where is the media or military? Why is the area blurred out by Google maps? Who are the kids that conveniently show up in a barn to give us a scare? How could a popping balloon destroy this super-advanced technology? What does any of this have to do with a homicidal chimp?

Kaluuya, who was so affected in Get Out, oddly seems never scared in this one, even when confronted with aliens or their carnivorous ships. The Fry’s guy more annoying than funny.
