Striptease (1996)
A few pretty funny moments. Bergman is probably the one to credit for those. Heavily romaticized. If only stripping was truly that respectable. Patrick is terrific as the slimeball. Ving and Burt are good too. Demi’s hot but not my type. Good music. Didn’t know the Eurythmics were still cool.
Full ReviewSupercop (1992)
So far, my least favorite of Chan’s. Too much Hollywood explosions and guns and killing, and not enough real Jackie action. The girl, not Jackie, has some of the best stunts. She took away some of Jackie’s thunder. Her jumping into the closed door was pretty funny. A decent story…

McConaughey actually turned me on. He has a big future ahead of him. Somehow, it even felt like it was from a book, which it was. Must have just been a well-written story. I like how the film sided with blacks but exposed the NAACP. The metaphor with the dog…

It just wasn’t too entertaining. The comedy wasn’t too funny, and Cheech could have been a lot funnier. I just don’t like Rene Russo. I think that it could have been better with someone else. Shelton was apparently trying to recapture the flavor of Bull Durham in this movie. I…
Full ReviewTwister (1996)
Pretty crappy. It had a little of that Jurassic Park cheesiness/corniness in it which ruined some parts, but again this one was saved by its great special effects. It seemed as if they tried to make it for both kids and adults, which can be a costly mistake in movie-making.…

Great quality footage, but the video clips didn’t work. Foreman was a better match than Frazier. The pictures and music at the end were great. Who’s “we” in the title? Blacks?
Full ReviewAddicted to Love (1997)
The script is too silly, and the acting is too scripted. Meg is her typical cute self, but I’m disappointed to see Broderick doing this kind of work. Karyo turns in the best performance. Cheesy fades and wipes.
Full ReviewAir Force One (1997)
An old Harrison really kicks ass for the first time in a long time. Oldman is pretty good and delightfully violent and threatening, more than most villains these days. Good casting overall, except for the Air Force pilots. How come they are always good looking? They never have actors with…
Full ReviewAmistad (1997)
Spielberg picked a great story to tell, and he did a great job telling it. Perhaps it deserves a higher rating, because I can’t think of any way I could have made it better, but I just don’t know. Another in a whole bunch of emotional and powerful Black historical…

A few funny moments, but lots of bad comedy. Revels in the campy past, like Tarantino’s work (only this is the 60’s, not the 70’s). Myers is just not very funny. Hurley, of course, is hot.
