Disturbing and amazing, painful and wonderful to watch. Not sure if it’s the performances of Larson and Tremblay, Abrahamson’s direction, or the subject matter, but it hits home. How is it that no one’s ever made a movie about this?

Larson deserved the Oscar, and an argument could be made for Tremblay as well. Together, their authentic performances make this whole thing seem very real. Amazing that Brie hasn’t really made an impression in any of her numerous previous performances. Supporting performances are all good as well.

Directed with authenticity and heart. Would love to see what Abrahamson does next.

If there’s any issue with the plot, it’s that the climax happens too quickly. The film is essentially split into two different stories, and while the first is really heavy, the second is not quite at the same level. Things feel a little unbalanced. Not sure whether I like or not that the case against Nick is unresolved, or that her father never comes to grips with the situation.
