Way too long. There’s an obvious attempt at preserving historical detail and sequences of events, but if a biodocumentary was Scorsese’s aim, then it shouldn’t have been marketed as Hollywood gloss. If it was meant to be Hollywood gloss, Scorsese should have had the sense to cut out large chunks of it to quicken the pace of the story.

The biggest problem, I think, is that we don’t know whether to love Hughes for his genius and his passion or hate him for his insolence and selfishness. And when you don’t know how to feel about the central character, the movie is not going to draw you in.

Hughes was a strange fellow. A title like “The Psychotic Engineer with OCD” might have been mopre appropriate, as his flying endeavours were secondary to his neuroses.

DiCaprio does pretty well. The make-up job to make him look older was fantastic. Blanchett doesn’t really look like Hepburn, but she nails it. Interesting casting choices all around.

Great set and costume design, but the Spruce Goose effects were pretty awful.
