Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Babe (1992)

Directed by Arthur Hiller

Starring John Goodman, Kelly McGillis, Trini Alvarado, Bruce Boxleitner

Author

The movie exists to say that Babe was a notorious historical figure who hit a lot of home runs, and there’s not much else. Relationships with the people around him, whether it’s wives or players, are glossed over.

Goodman kind of looks the part, but his swing is awful. The baseball action is pathetically shot, with close-ups and CGI preventing anything authentic. And the factual inaccuracies will ruin it for real baseball fans. Babe didn’t homer in his last at bat. Designated runners didn’t happen.

The title card at the end was meant to put a punctuation mark on a dramatic story, but it was laughable.
