Jeff's Reviews

Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Big Lebowski (1998)

Directed by Joel Coen

Starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi

Author

All the Coen movies feature strange and interesting characters in strange and interesting locales with goofball, random humor. A few decent laughs. A few Pulp Fiction-ish “it’s cool to be campy 70’s” scenes. Kind of weird that it took place in the Bush era. Was it an old script or something? It should have been modernized.

Half the Fargo cast returns for this one. Goodman was good. He reminded me a lot of Rob Ford. Buscemi got annoying after a while. Turturro, a great actor, was hilarious. He reminds me a lot of Kazen. He looks like him, and Mike tries to act really over the top like that sometimes.

Some neat metaphorical shots and camera angles, reminiscent of Spike Lee. Not sure if i liked the end with the cowboy talking. Typically I wouldn’t like it, but for this movie, it might have fit the goofball theme.
