Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Fortune (1975)

Directed by Mike Nichols

Starring Stockard Channing, Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Ian Wolfe

Author

Nice intro music, but pretty boring overall. It doesn’t seem like very much happens. It’s almost as if the film was adapted from a play. The farcical comedy isn’t really funny, and neither is the slapstick physical humor. The film did not effectively build up to the woman’s breakdown, so when she actually does have a breakdown, it seems silly and ridiculous rather than funny (which is what I think it was supposed to be).

Beatty seems to be able to play the 1920’s characters perfectly, as evidenced by this film, Dick Tracy, and Bugsy. Was the landlady the old woman from “Night Court”?
