Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Transformers: The Movie (1986)

Directed by Nelson Shin

Starring Orson Welles, Robert Stack, Leonard Nimoy, Norman Alden

Author

Decent story, some pretty edgy moments (profanity!), great guest voices. And if you know the whole Transformers story and characters, there is some real drama, some great match-ups, and a heck of a story there. I was a Transformer fan, and I thought this was the coolest movie ever.

The main issues I have are their military tactics (not smart), their forms (impractical), their relative sizes (inconsistent), and their aim (awful considering their technological achievements).

Mediocre animation (like Saturday morning cartoons), lots of disjointed sequences. It’s almost like it was made for commercial breaks. Too may sunlight starbursts and eye twinkles. That tunneling animation like in 2001: A Space Odyssey has been used everywhere. Too much music. Every scene is like a rock video, like The Crow. Super fast action and even faster cuts get annoying.

Sadly and ironically, the last movie for Welles and Crothers.
