Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Truth About Charlie (2002)

Directed by Jonathan Demme

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Thandie Newton, Tim Robbins, Olga Sékulic

Author

Not sure Wahlberg can carry a movie. Newton can’t, even though she does prove to be a bit more human than in Mission Impossible 2. What’s with the woman in black?

Lots of twists, but who cares. When they prevent us from siding with any of the characters, they prevent us from being drawn into the story, and all of the time up to the climax, or final twist, seems wasted.

Some questionable, unmotivated camera movements. And the pianist was extremely gay, throwing us a surrealist curve in an otherwise realistic movie.
