A weird mix of drama and comedy. One minute, we share emotional and insightful moments with the characters, the next minute they are clowns, going above and beyond the story for some laughs. This bouncing back and forth between subjective sympathy and objective comedy is a little awkward.
Mann delivers a courageous performance in her first lead role. Rudd is as endearing as ever.
Given that this is Apatow’s wife and kids, I’m inclined to think that this is at least partly autobiographical.
