I wanted to rank this film a little lower because the film’s popularity as an American classic prompted me to expect a masterpiece, but then I looked at the film objectively, as if I was the only one who saw it, and decided that this was actually a pretty good movie.

Tootsie fits right into the 1970’s feel-good genre. It was enjoyable movie with a superb performance by Dustin Hoffman. It was almost like a funny man’s Superman. Hoffman was forced to conceal his identity for almost the whole film, and then he won the girl he loves by revealing his true self. I can’t help from feeling that the movie was lacking some little unidentifiable thing that prevented it from being an awesome movie.

What was the point of Geena Davis in the film? She had no significance in the plot, and she was an absolutely horrible actress. I’m surprised she didn’t stare into the camera. I assume she was fortunate to have a relative or close friend who could offer her a spot in the production. The doctor in the movie, Dr. Brewster, lated starred in the sitcom, “Punky Brewster.”
