One of many films, like WarGames, in the early 80’s which were leery of the computer revolution that was just beginning. We should have spent more time inside the computer. Fascinating world. Scary! Felt a lot like Metropolis, and a lot like THX 1138. And in reality, it felt a lot like Nazi Germany.

The games they played were fantastic. The effects, especially for their time, were wonderful. And so were the sounds that went along with them. It’s neat how colors (blue and red) come to mean so much in this film. The closing shot of the city is beautiful, and it had a great message (the shot looks like the ones in the computer world, the real world is a machine). A perfect ending shot.

I wonder why the director didn’t go on to do anything noteworthy. Maybe he just came before his time.
