Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Troy (2004)

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen

Starring Julian Glover, Brian Cox, Nathan Jones, Adoni Maropis

Author

Was very excited about this one, but it falls a bit flat because the characters are not very well-developed.

Bana is pretty good but I’m beginning to wonder if he’s really as talented as I thought he was after I first saw Chopper. Pitt’s OK, not quite as stunning as I would have liked him to be. Unfortunately, he’s not the athlete I would have liked him to be, and he has never come across as particularly intelligent or well-spoken. We get to see lots of his ass. Bloom is exceptionally faggoty but his turn as an archer was pretty exciting. Kruger is a pretty face, but learning more about her character would have really helped to intensify the drama. Nice to see the Braveheart duo back for another epic.

Helen of Troy was the beginning of the unhealthy obsession with female beauty that has spoiled the American psyche.

Lots of panoramic battle sequences reminiscent of Braveheart and LOTR, but the real action is cheapened by quick cuts. The battle between Hector and Achilles was very good but should have been longer. The Achilles heel moment was really cool.
