Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Zero Effect (1998)

Directed by Jake Kasdan

Starring Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller, Ryan O'Neal, Kim Dickens

Author

Kind of interesting how Zero pieces things together like Sherlock Holmes, but is that all there is? What’s the story here? Zero is trying to make some money solving a case? Not sure that’s enough. But wait a minute, maybe this isn’t supposed to be a drama. Maybe it’s supposed to be a comedy. Is it? Because it’s not really funny. Is it a mystery? Because it meanders a bit too much for that. And that’s the problem. The movie is all over the place.

I like Pullman, but his nervous energy makes him a little uncomfortable to watch. It’s neither funny nor interesting, just annoying. He’s almost up in Jeremy Davies territory. Featherstone is a Gretchen Mol lookalike.

A lot of scripted dialogue and a heavy soundtrack, symptomatic of movies in the 90’s.
