The Big Chill (1983)
Full of familiar faces. Even the dead h=guy was Costnmer. Fuinny that the actor is nicest and most down to eath. Hurt was most intelligent and most interesting. Lots of telling match-cuts for each character. Hurt is funny, perfect for deadpan. Last music hit before redit is a bit off.…
Full ReviewHannibal (2001)
A suitable sequel I suppose. Hannibal is definitely a chilling character, one of the best villains in recent history. Good to see an old guy like Hopkins playing such demented characters. I can’t think of anyone else over 50 who would play such a horrifyingly disgusting person on screen. The…
Full ReviewThe Astronaut’s Wife (1999)
A modernized, scientifically-explained remake of Rosemary’s Baby. Depp is interestingly normal.
Full ReviewGhost in the Shell (1995)
OK. The Matrix is quite the hack job, isn’t it? Phone booths, falling green numbers…
Full ReviewThirteen Days (2000)
Felt like that’s how long it was. Tension just cannot be sustained through that length of film. Such a literal presentation of history, with archival footage and black and white. Anderson’s story is more interesting than Kennedy’s. It’s hard to take Costner seriously with an accent. Cool nukes in beginning.
Full ReviewTraffic (2000)
Well-made, with an engaging style and score. Soderbergh knows how to handle an ensemble cast. Every one of them puts the story first. No egos. Del Toro has put on weight, but he sure is cool. He’s the Mexican Brad Pitt. Real senators give the movie credibility. A Best Picture…
Full ReviewAntiTrust (2001)
Uninteresting plot. Very Microsoft, hot on the heels of the Microsoft antitrust trials. Not a big fan of Phillippe. He’s a weenie. Like a cross between DiCaprio and Ethan Hawke. My date for this one: Allison.
Full ReviewCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
Fantastic kung fu and incredible swordplay. Some of that flighty stuff was a bit hard to swallow, though. Touching story Zhang is great (girls who can really move turn me on, see Mr. Nice Guy), Yeoh and Fat are perfect. I didn’t know he could move like that.
Full ReviewGross Misconduct (1993)
TV movie material. Smits is unimpressive, but Watts is one hot Australian chick.
Full ReviewCast Away (2000)
The plane crash was horrifyingly fantastic, the long takes and silence on the island helps create a sense of isolation. Hanks is good, giving the the movie the most subtle touch of comedy. His physical transformation is remarkable. Zemeckis has always been a pioneer of CGI, but a few effects…
